TEDX NYU TALK
Savoring Status:
Food as Cultural Capital

TEDXNYU · 2025 · NEW YORK UNIVERSITY
Drawing on my background in food media, I used online food culture as a lens to examine how the digital world shapes real world consumer behavior, decision making, and the way we assign value to everyday experiences.

As part of my final semester at New York University, I delivered a TEDxNYU talk examining the intersection of
food media, digital consumption, and cultural identity. I explored how social media transforms the way we discover restaurants, define authenticity, and assign value in food culture. Drawing from nine internships across Hospitality and Food & Beverage, I shared insights from developing content strategy for major restaurant groups, viral digital platforms, and community driven accounts including NYU Bite Club and @Rachels_Recs_.
Through this research and experience, I explored how online food content shapes consumer behavior and the fine line between genuine connection and performative experience. The talk challenged both creators and consumers to ask: is it hype, authenticity, or novelty driving their choices? And how do we keep storytelling meaningful in a world driven by digital trends.
